Brooklands Museum Fire and Rescue Service (BMFRS) is a small dedicated section of Brooklands Museum all of which are unpaid volunteers and hold full time jobs outside the museum.
 

 
Other duties that are carried out by the team:
 
Members of the team are part of the museum Health and Safety Commitee
BMFRS carry out regular Fire Inspections,  Health and Safety inspections of the Museum site to
ensure compliance with Health and Safety Law  
 
BMFRS trains all staff and volunteers at Brooklands Museum in Fire Prevention training.
We also train other outside Groups in Fire Prevention ranging from Brownies,Guides, 
St John Ambulance Cadets to other Adult groups
 
Other external duties
Organise the annual Emergency Services Day at the Museum
Fire cover for the Double Twelve event at Mercedes Benz World 
Volunteer Air Crew Transport Drivers Wings and Wheels Dunsfold 
Fire cover for Powered by Mercedes event at Mercedes Benz World

 

BMFRS are recognised members of the British Fire Services Association since 2008.

  

The team cover all flying and vehicle events at the museum. training is carried out whilst on duty and at other times in their own time.(Over 1650 hours of unpaid time in 2009)
The section is a self funding part of the museum raising funds by covering external events such as Fetes and open days and fire cover at other events. 
 Company history
BMFRS started in 1995 and has covered all flying and aircraft events at the museum since. BMFRS also covers all vehicle events. All members are fully qualified Aerodrome fire- fighters. Two members of the team are now qualified as vehicle fire investigators. One member of the team is a qualified Bomb Threat assesor.
Two members of the team have been presented with Long Service Medals by the British Fire Services Association

8th December Landrover to John Dennis coachbuilders for minor repairs to the vehicle (many thanks to Alan and his team for their assistance)
28th October receipt of equipment from John Dennis Coachbuilders (Alan McClafferty) for use on the fire service vehicles
13th October Fire cover for first landing of aircraft (Microlight) on new runway
29th September Fire cover for helicopter (G-PIXX) on new runway carrying D Coulthard and M Brundle (F1 Motor sport comentators)
24th September Assist Painshill Fire Station with their open day
26th - 30th August Assist at Wings and Wheels event Dunsfold 
6th March First event using the Museum Ambulance for First Aid cover
27th March Working with Sites Ambulance Service to cover first aid at Museum Event
1st January Take over First Aid cover at the museum for smaller events.
1st January first Medical call to Volunteer with injuries after fall
  
2010 
November requested by museum to take over the First Aid cover for the smaller events
 
November visit by the Queens Award for Volunteering team to assess BMFRS
 
September Night at Brooklands with St John Ambulance Adult section and two nights with the Cadets giving them a feel of what its like to be a fire fighter carrying out tasks such as hose running, working from a hydrant and a room search
 
May All members of team qualified in use of Medical gases (Oxygen and Entenox)
  

April All members of team qualified to use the new Defib (Lifepak 1000)

 

We now have one member of the team Certified as a Community first responder and two members Certified in Baby and Children Emergency Life Support 

 

January 2010 BMFRS received a grant from British Heart Foundation for the purchase of an Automatic External defib

 

2009

Sunday 15th November  2009 the team welcomed home the replica Vimy bomber after over 13000 miles of record breaking flight 

 

Three members of the team at the end of February 2009 spent time at Silverstone Circuit and met some of the teams working there seeing what duties are carried out at a Race Curcuit and what incidents happen. The team worked with the VSCC marshals to assist in covering one of the marshal posts at BROOKLANDS corner on the track, they also spent time with the Fire crew, incident Units, Clerk of the course, and track Control.  

 

BMFRS were shortlisted in the 2009 BAA comunities Trust volunteering awards
 

2008

BMFRS were recognised as part of the British Fire Services Association in 2008 
BMFRS team were recognised in Feb 2008 by BAA Comunities Trust for their commitment to the community and time spent in volunteering by being given a Highly Commended award
